This was my third time running the Catalina Marathon.
I will never grow tired of this race. It is a difficult course, very scenic and
perfect for any ability level.

They offer an early start for walkers or runners who need extra time and have the most scenic views of any course I have ever been on.
The course takes you from one end of the island to the other. Two Harbors to Avalon!

Aid stations are spread out every mile to three miles apart and are stocked with all kinds of goodies. The medal is a tile art made right on Catalina island and your shirt says finisher. Which will mean a lot once you complete this race. The folks are Spectrum Sports are very friendly and helpful if you have questions or concerns.

This year we received a picture frame to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the race.

You get to see all sides of the island and some really beautiful parts in between. I highly recommend this race. If you are looking for a first time or 50th trail race. This is a perfect race for you.

I live in Long Beach, Ca and on a clear day we can see Catalina while running. Sometimes I stop and look at the length of the island and think to myself….I ran from one end to other. What a huge accomplishment and something you will never forget!

I recommend this race to all. It is a beautiful 10 mile to 4-day ultra set on a ranch in Los Olivos. The shirt is high quality and VERY cool. The medal is the only one I have ever received that I can wear all year long! It is a handmade amulet and just wearing it makes you part of the B2R Tribe.

I did the course preview previously and this year I decided to shoot for the 30 miler. It was unbelievably beautiful and very well marked 10 mile loops. I loved coming back to camp after every 10 miles. Aid stations were on each loop and the vibe is awesome.

Something is always happening and the people are interesting. Camping is great and the race si even better. If you have been thinking about running this race DO NOT HESITATE. Sign up because it’s awesome and you will go back every year.

This is one of my favorite races ever!

Packet pick up is easy and quick. Hotels in Ventura fill up fast so book your hotel early or just get on in Oxnard. Restaurants are also crazy busy the night before the race so make reservations early.

the race is point to point it starts in the mountains and ends at the beach. You have to take a shuttle to the start line, They are incredible organized and shuttles are easy to get to.

The start line has a ton of energy and the pacers are always super up beat. It has a nice downhill grade the entire course so its a very PR friendly course. Its not super crowded and I like that a lot. It is a pretty run from beginning to end. The finish line is a lot of fun with a GREAT after party. Its actually fun to go cheer the full marathoners on after you finish the half. I think on this course I am always surprised to see how fresh everyone looks even in the last miles.

The medal this past year was an awesome sun catcher made out of recycled materials which I really liked.

I will be back for this race in the future. It was just a really nice change of pace from over crowded races and very scenic.

I have ran this half marathon 2 years and row and its just so crowded no matter how much I want to love it I can not.

Bib pick up is located at the fairs grounds and parking is always crazy. Nothing please me more than paying for parking to pick up my bib and O.C love to charge lots for parking! I think if you pay over $100.00 for registration you should not be charged parking for bib pick up and then again the next day for the race. However, it has always seemed to me O.C Marathon is in it for the greed. The expo is crowded shoulder to shoulder every year. Merchandise is sky high and not that great.

The race is point to point so you have to take a shuttle to the start line if you want to park near the finish line. It is really scenic with lots of hills but the crowds never thin out it is shoulder to shoulder the whole time. It even has parts that you are forced to walk due to crowd congestion.

The finish line is a stinking mess. Both years it took almost 5 minutes to get water and walk through the finishers chutes. It is just too crowded! The after party is always fun with lots of beer and great band. I suggest trying to stay for the because its an act of God to get out of the fairgrounds parking. Plan on waiting forever to leave this race.

The up side of this race is a nice medal and a scenic course. I will not be back for a 3rd year.
I’m just not a fan of spending 100 plus dollars and people bumping into me. However, if you love outstanding ocean views and can stay for the after party you should try it out.

This race will always hold a special place in my heart. It was my very first race ever. I run it ever year and in my opinion is the best 5k I have ever run.

This is a small local little race in the heart of Wrigley, Long beach. Bib pick up is super easy and convenient. They day before or day of are both are both options. If you go the day before they have a pizza pig out and for a small fee you can try pizza from several local places and vote for the best.

The race features a 5k,10k or Double Down 15k they also have a cool tadpole trot for the little guys. Each distance starts at a different time and strollers have a different start time as well. The streets of Wrigley are very big and wide open so you never have to worry about crowding. They have a couple bands along the route, cheerleaders and plenty of water. It’s a great beginners course and easy PR course.

The finish line is awesome and full of excitement. Afterwards they always a have a couple of kids pools filled with ice and bottles of water. They have pizza and fresh cut fruit at the finish line. The only thing is if you do the race you will be spoiled and always wonder what is wrong with all the races out there. Why can’t they be as organized and have such a great finish line.

No medals for this race but I love the t-shirts they give out every year. They are super soft and great quality. I’m still wearing my shirt from 3 years ago as it has held up well over time.

I will do be back for the this race every single year and if you are looking to join a running club This is a good event to come to. Several large running clubs show up for this event every year and its a great time to check them out.

This is such an amazing destination race!

Packet pick up is easy. They allow bibs to be transferred for $20.00. The race ends in Solvang which is a simply enchanting town .

You are bussed from Solvang to the start, Lots of energy at the start line. They have wine tasting on the course which was awesome!!! There is one giant hill by the name of corkscrew. Its not has hard as it looks. It reminded me of pump house hill on Catalina. The course is so beautiful and we had a Bison sighting. It does roll some on the second half and has two more little hills on the last mile and a half.

Finish line is great with a super nice medal. Shirts leave a lot to be desired. Finish line party is epic! SO much wine and beer tasting. Bring food like sandwiches or crackers and cheese if possible. you will be hungry while drinking.

I really enjoyed this race. It is a favorite of my running club AREC and I will be going back year after year.

This was a very fun race!

The race is at night through the streets of Downtown L.A and the up to Dodger stadium. You pass Dodger Stadium and keep running through Elysian Park. Oh my gosh the hills are just brutal and they do not end till you come back to Dodger stadium in mile 9! I loved it!!!

Running through Dodger Stadium at the night is just amazing! Totally makes you forget all the pain you endured to get there.

The finish line is at the Staples center. Awesome beer garden but be sure to gear check warm clothes.

I did not care for the expo is was small and weird. They give a nice hoodie instead of a shirt and the medal is spectacular. I like that you can take the train there but I did drive and parking was easy and affordable. I only wish they had signs posted on how to get back to your car. The race starts and finishes in two different areas. If your not familiar with downtown LA getting back to your car at 11 pm requires Siri.

I recommend this race and I signed up to do it again! I did overhear my extremely fast friends who have ran all kinds of races saying this was the hardest half marathon they have done SoCal. So be sure to hill train for this one.

This is one of my favorite races to do every year it is a guaranteed PR. I believe the appeal for me the fact that its one only half marathon out of the Beach Cities Challenge that the course actually opens up after mile 3 and becomes less crowded.

Packet pick up is easy to get to and well organized. I always have fun at the expo. They have lots of areas to take photos and the plenty of vendors set up. Kinane events always gives out the best shirts and if you run it 3 years in a row you become legacy and earn and extra shirt.

Parking for the event is easy and can be free is you do it right. The start of the race is always freezing but warms up by the start. The course is out and back and isn’t very difficult. There is a large hill when you turn on to Seapoint. PCH can be difficult if you are not expecting any inclines. The course does roll but they are gently in my option.

It is nice that you are not shoulder to shoulder with others runners the entire time. Corral placement is self seeded and most runners “seem” to be honest with their placement.

You can hear the finish line when you are about a mile and half away from it which makes e fight harder even when I am tired. The finish line is very well organized with lots of goodies.

Surf City always has a nice after party with a band and beer! They have the absolute best gear check. The line goes super quick and nothing has ever been misplaced. I just always tie a bright colored ribbon on my bag to make it easier to find.

This is good beginners course and a great course to earn a PR! Each year they give out a new Surf Board medal that is unique.

If you are going to do a trail marathon so this one! This is a really unique race that start in Two Harbors and ends in Avalon. With any luck you may be see a few Bison during the early hours of the race.

One you depart the ferry in Two Harbors you have just a short amount of time to get ready and over to the start line. Spectrum Sports does allow early starts for walkers so that you will have more than 8 hours to complete the course. You quickly start climbing mountains and running down trails that do not look like trails once the race begins. After you finally pass Little Harbor and make your way into Middle Ranch you have several miles of kind of flat maintained dirt road to run. Once you reach Pump House Hill that is where all the challenges really begin and of course those are the last 6 or so miles of the race. The bright side is the last 3 miles is all down hill! ( just watch your step on the loose gravel )

The aide stations are simply outstanding. They are stocked with everything you can imagine from gummy M&M’s too bacon and watermelon. Lots of Coke on the course and home baked Cookies! It’s hard not to linger for awhile and talk to everyone.

Once you reach the finish line you receive the best medal around because it is so unique. A resident on the island makes hand made island tile art. It is very delicate but OH SO BEAUTIFUL.

What I love most about the race is that you do not receive your shirt until you cross the finish line. They give out an awesome long sleeve tech shirt that says finisher on it. The only thing I wish they would change is adding the elevation chart to the back of the shirt again.

I would and do recommend this race to everyone. It is a lot of fun and very scenic. Trail races are the best races because everyone is so friendly and other runners support you while running. It is very different than a street race and something more people should experience.

I can’t think of a better way to spend every single Labor day! I absolutely LOVE this Race!!!
Packet pick up is east to get to get to at Road Runners sport in Torrance. You have several days to go so make time when you can. If you can’t make packet pick up then just register the day of the race and skip pick up. Getting to the race is super easy and they always have plenty of parking. The first year I ran this race you only received a t-shirt but the last 2 years I received a t-shirt and a medal. What could be better?1?

This race has a vibe you rarely find at other races. It is super upbeat, with kind of small town, high energy feel to it. It’s is really exciting when you are at the starting line. The race director does an excellent job of making sure all the running clubs get picture time at the start line before the race. They have a really good D.J and if you are lucky you may get interviewed by a news reporter.

The course takes you up and over the Vincent Thomas Bridge for a distance of 5.3 miles out an back. Once they had a 13.1 mile distance which I hope they have again. Running up and over that bridge twice is no joke! It really is a challenge and the views are absolutely breathtaking!!! The race is also VERY walker friendly so if you are not a runner but up for a unique challenge and something cool to do on Labor Day this is just event for you. Grab a friend, a camera and head out an adventure.

The finish line always has tons of people cheering the runners on as they come in and they also give out lots of goodies to eat and drink. A cool perk after the race is to head over to the San Pedro Fish Market ( Food is to die for) for the all you can eat $10.00 breakfast.

I love this race and will run it every year until I am in a wheelchair and no longer allowed up on the bridge, I suggest everyone try this race at least once because I am sure you will love it.

This is very high spirited race that does an amazing job with its toy drive. I have never seen such a large pile of toys before. If you do this race please bring an unwrapped $10.00 gift. These gifts to the children in the community and as you run this course it becomes apparent why this toy drive is so important.

The race starts is a creepy, sketchy alley type street. The only thing I didn’t really like about this race. It goes up and over one single overpass and then is pancake flat all the way to the finish. the first half of the course is strawberry fields and industrial buildings. (boring)

Every few miles you will pass a cheer station that is AMAZING. The kids form local schools are competing for money and the winner of the best cheer station gets the prize. Every runner can vote for the winner at the end of the race so be sure to remember the number of your favorite .

Once you pass the half way point the course looks a little better. You pass Holiday Lane and so many great volunteers. The curse ends in the marina and they give out lots of goodies.

They do have a nice shirt and medal. The race is in Oxnard so they offer packet pick up in Santa Monica which was very nice.

This is a great first timers course or to just go after a PR. No hills, wide streets and its very festive!

Holiday Half in Pamona is a ton of fun! Just about everyone is in the spirit and dressed up for the race. I love looking around and seeing lots of excited happy runners. This race delivers that.

Packet pick up is awesome because they have day of race pick up! Parking is easy and nice to walk up and get your bib. They also give a Santa Hat with your bib which is really cute.

The start of the race is very high energy and they blow bubbles to make it look like snow! The course is not easy but not too hard. It does circle Puddingstone Lake so expect lots of hills. The nice thing about Frank G. Bonelli park is that is VERY pretty so I always enjoy events at that location. They have a ton of course support and never run out of water.

they give a very nice medal and shirt every year as well. I really enjoyed the after part at this race. They have costume contests, a band and plenty of beer! What could be better in early morning hours on Sunday..right?

It is a fun race with a slightly challenging course I would do this race again.

I thought L.A Marathon would be a great first time Marathon but I really did not like much about this race from beginning to end.

The expo is easy to get to by train but it very small for such a large area. The talks give were nice but I did not have a good time at the expo and wanted to leave right away.
The race starts at Dodger Stadium and it nice because the Stadium is open and you can sit inside while waiting for the start. It is a point to point course so you have to catch a shuttle in Santa Monica at 3 am to get to Dodger Stadium and then wait for the race to begin.

If you have never ran a marathon do not have a sub 5 hour marathon time to submit you will be in the very last starting corral. Which is okay but it’s really crowded and this is a large event of Students Run LA. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE that the kids are running but they tend to run 5 and 6 wide on the course and will suddenly stop in front of you, Making the crowded course that much more difficult to navigate.

I dont think the course is as scenic as it is billed to be. You really have to be looking to find some of these landmarks they talk about. It was very hot the year I ran it and they ran out of electrolytes so I never had any till about mile 23. They also ran out of water and cups very early on in the race. My friends several corals ahead running a sub 4:30 marathon never experience issues with Gatorade or water being out but our coral did and everyone behind us.

The course was just Meh in my opinion and the weather for L.A is always a crap shoot. The finish line was weird. The food and medals were really far apart and the gear check was in the shoot but you had to really walk a long way to get it. It didn’t seem to be very well thought out. The beer garden closed early as they were out of beer too and honestly on a hot day that is what most of talked about in the last few miles. It was so sad to find out they had none.

The medal was cute it matched the shirt but the shirt was kind of ugly. It was dark grey with a large orange vinyl design .

Overall I just did like anything about the race except getting to take a photo with the West LA Cheerleaders. It is doubtful I will run LA again.

This race is outstanding! I loved every single thing about it. The expo was very well organized making packet up easy. They give a soft long sleeve tech shirt that perfect for cooler weather running.

The course is non stop rolling hills along the most beautiful stretch of highway I have every seen in my life. Giant waves crash along the shore for the entire length of the course. I have no words to describe the beauty of this course. I was so taken back by it that I stopped running several times just to take it all in. The hills are not difficult in my opinion but they will tire you out eventually especially if you have not trained for them. It is an out and back course so it is really neat to see the elites coming in on the finally stretch as you just hitting mile 3 to 4.

I love the vibe from all the spectators they look for your name on your bib and yell it out as you running the 2 miles in which just makes you feel good. The finish line is very well organized and the amount of food you get at the end is unreal. They even had hot soup!

The medal is one of my favorite. It has a very rustic, hand carved look to it on a leather strap.
Big Sur goes out the way to pay attention to every little detail from start to finish. It really gives each person a VIP type experience. I have ran many races and none have come close to Big Sur. They are hands down one of the best race experiences in the country. I am going back in 2015 for the 21 miler and just can’t wait to run!
