This is a pretty flat course, but it was too hot for me the day I ran so I tanked. Also did too much sightseeing the day before so lesson learned! There was excellent support along the course and having the Indianapolis Speedway place mid-way is a great strategy. After you run the 2.5 miles of that you are nearly at 9 miles and so near done. Race was well organized and really starts the celebration for the Indy 500 Race later in May. Only thing that would have helped on a hot day like this was an earlier start.

Low key race. Not much to look at on the course after the stunning view of the Mississippi at sunrise. Not many places to stay or much to do around here. The bus to the start went smoothly. Course was well marked. Amazing support as there was water AND portapotties every mile. After race had tamales!

Race went off without a hitch even with some crazy weather interrupting the expo/bib pickup. Race expo was small, but well staffed and spirited. The guy dressed as Lincoln was gracious and posed with everyone for a picture. Course was nice some doable hills. Weather made it challenging with 25 mph winds and felt colder than it was. Course takes you by Lincoln House/Capital Bldg/Lincoln’s grave. Great to visit these sites after run and the Dana-Thomas House (Frank Llyod Wright) was stunning – all free!

This is a tough hilly course run in mid-March in NY Hudson Valley so that should set the scene. It is hilly, up hills are SLOW, but down hills are fast. There are many cadets rucking as well. There are family of fallen West Point alum along the course and these are the folks that you run this race for. This was a special race for me because I ran it with my daughter who was a plebe at West Point. The race starts at the football stadium so there is plenty of parking and warm bathrooms. You do need to go the day(s) before to the Visitor Center and get cleared to come on campus for the race. Pretty easy to do. It’s a beautiful campus with stunning views of the Hudson River. Tons of history……………..you’ll run by statues of many US generals, the graveyard where Custer is buried, and many other sites on campus.
