In 1967, Don Zetnick found himself in his mid-30s, out of shape, overweight and unable to walk his dog up a hill. He decided enough was enough and he made changes to improve his health. One very important change: He began running.
What began as a healthy pastime soon became a passion. After running (and winning) almost 1400 races, triathlons and marathons, Zetnick turned his hobby into a business and began catering to the unique needs of runners. The Runner was born.
In 1978, Zetnick and a few local runners founded the Arlington Runners Club and the Arlington Winter Run.
The course runs on scenic neighborhood streets, beginning and ending on the UTA campus.

CHARITABLE BENEFIT: THE ARLINGTON-MANSFIELD AREA YMCA
People need certain things to thrive. We need to eat well, stay safe, be active, spend time together, learn and grow. Sadly, in an increasingly technological and polarized world, it’s not always easy to get what we need. Playing outside has become a rarity. Face time happens through a phone. And instead of seeing the income gap shrink, it seems all we do is watch it grow.
But where society falls short, the Y steps in.
Because, after 57 years of serving the Arlington and Mansfield communities, the Y knows what we need to be our best selves. So, it gives us a place to play, to learn, to be healthy, to eat well and give back. It gives parents child care, young adults job training and children a safe place to go. Everything the Y does is in services of making us better.
For a better you. For a better community. For a better country. For a better us.

This is about me…
Ok…so today I ran my anniversary race, the Zetnick Winter Run 2 Mile. This was the first race I ran I my adult life.
In 2015 I ran a time of 24:05.
In 2016 I ran a time of 21:34.
Today I ran 19:18 and came in 2nd in my age division.
I’ve never broken 20 minutes in a 2 mile run before. This was a PR (personal record) all the way. The penguins are the awards for placing and represents a lot to me.
🎄2 years ago I thought a mile was an eternity. Now I’ve run a half marathon and a mile is a piece of cake. I started running with 12-14/minute miles and now I’m consistently under 10/minutes. Mind blown.
🎄At my first race I remember seeing other people place and receive their penguins. And I truly remember thinking, “that will never be me, I’m just here to do my own thing”. Little did I know my own thing would eventually become earning my own penguin.
🎄At my first race I had only been running for a couple of months and I had been injured a couple of times. I am an injury prone runner for sure. BUT this year I really began focusing on cross training and not just practicing running but actually working to improve my body and nutrition. *knock on wood* I’ve had far fewer injuries this year and I feel so much stronger and healthier!

A cold and rainy morning. But thankfully the registration and set up is inside the UTA fitness gym. This was my second time running this 2m race.
Packet pick up was a breeze.
Parking was weird…the parking lot we were supposed to use had a cop shooing people away. Most people parked far and walked. I pulled up a campus map on my phone and found close parking that I had to drive around for, but it was worth it since it was cold and raining.
Race was well marked, lots of volunteers and great support.
Small but nice run
A small but nice run on the uta campus. Not terrible scenic, but it's a wonderful group of people and fora great cause. I enjoyed it. And plan on running … MORE
