Overall Rating: Good
Course Difficulty: This course is moderately technical, but was very runnable. Lots of rolling hills with a few steep climbs for a total of 2500ish feet of gain. Plenty of rocks and roots, and no creek crossings. Also, a mentally exhausting number of switchbacks,
Course scenery: Good. A lot of shaded forest.
Race Production: Good.
25k loop that started and ended at a campground. Packet pickup was at the start/finish line before the race, no issues. Aid stations didn’t have a ton of food options, but had Gatorade as expected….all good. The primary issue we all had was about 1/4 mile in, all runners thought we were going the wrong way because it was explicitly stated that flags would always be on the right…except they were on the left; this added up to roughly 1/2 to 1.5 miles of extra running, depending on when you picked a direction. As it turns out a volunteer had planted the flags on the wrong side; we had him flogged, dismembered, and parted out, so all good now.
Race Swag: Long sleeve tech shirt, wooden medal.
My Performance: This race was really hard for me, I was worn out and hot. Just wanted to get it done, and accomplished that.
Final notes: This race is about as close to a mix of Rocky Raccoon and LBL50 as you’ll get. The area is pretty, and on a normal year it is probably a good temp, just hot this year, like everywhere. No major issues here, and nothing extremely outstanding. It is a good race.
