Experience one of the country’s most spectacular and breathtaking marathons and half marathons. In the past you have had to choose either a big city run or scenic and wild beauty. Now you can have both! Begin your run at the beautiful Oregon State Capitol and meander through the downtown streets of Salem before transitioning into the lush green of forests and meadows along the Willamette River. The run finishes at Salem’s Riverfront park on the banks of the Willamette River were you will can enjoy catered lunch and wine pairings to top off your Willamette Valley experience.
The Willamette Valley Marathon is a flat, fast course that starts directly in front of the Oregon State Capitol building. Runners will head west through the heart of downtown Salem to the Willamette River.
Upon reaching the river they will head north through Riverfront Park and then cross over the Union Street Pedestrian Bridge over to Wallace Marine Park. A quick loop of Wallace Marine Park with its miles of green grass and huge shade trees will give runners their first glimpses of the beautiful Willamette River. After completing a lap of Wallace Marine Park it is back across the Union Street Bridge and through Riverfront Park this time heading south to the new Peter Courtney Bridge that will take runners over to the Minto-Brown Island Park. Miles of beautiful paved pathways wind through this amazing park showcasing the Willamette River and habitat that lives along its banks.
Upon reaching the Southwest part of the park Marathon Runners will exit the park for an out and back along River Road. Once again beautiful scenery and flat roads greet the runners as trees and forest give way to the abundant farmlands of the Willamette Valley as runners near Independence, Oregon. A quick turn around on River Road and then it is back to Minto-Brown Island Park covering a new set of trails on the way to the finish at Riverfront Park.
The Marathon course has a total elevation gain and loss of 350 feet. The largest hill is 50 feet in height. 100% of the course is on pavement.
We will be capping registration at 1,500 runners combined for all races.
