First, don’t believe the descriptions written by Mellew Productions about their race course description (almost certain the writer NEVER actually runs the courses!)! Expect the actual course to be more difficult and the OPPOSITE of the description…if it says “mostly flat”, expect it to be “mostly hills and incline” in one direction of the BORING out-and-back course!

Second, bring your own hydration!! Again, in the description of their races they tell you that they have water stations every 1 to 1.5 miles…NOT TRUE!!!! I ran their Jalapeno Half in June and this half in July, and on the course of BOTH races the water stations are at least 2 miles apart, with BOTH races having one station 3 MILES from the other!! So, if you want to stay hydrated, you need to bring some extra and strap it on!

Third, if you are wanting great scenery to distract you from “mostly on an incline” run, don’t pick Mellew Production events. They are boring, out-and-back, courses! This particular race took place along a long stretch of highway! It was horrible!

Fourth- Go ahead and pack your own first aide kit. We never saw first aide stations on either course. We know of at least one runner that collapsed during this race requiring an ambulance to be called in…probably in that 3-mile stretch with no hydration! Also, if you are a runner that requires any type of snacks during a race, pack your own. Their water stations only provide water and Gatorade. They don’t provide any other type of nourishment for your running experience, unlike every race I have participated in that was put on by other race coordinators. And while i am on the subject of nourishment, You only get a banana, water or Gatorade at the end of the race…NOTHING ELSE!! No chocolate milk, orange slices, NOTHING.

So basically, you pay the same entry fee as other races by different sponsors, but you get LESS!!

I signed up and paid for the hardest half challenge in which i ran their June and July events and I am running their August event. If it wasn’t for the fact that I have already paid for the August race, THIS race, the Wildfire, would be my LAST Mellew Productions Event!!! August’s race will definitely be my last and I wouldn’t reccommend Mellew Productions Events to anyone, especially others, like myself, that drive 3 hours and stay in a hotel in order to attend one of their events!! Trust me, the race experience with this sponsor isn’t worth the $ or the drive!!
