2021 IN-PERSON EVENT CANCELED due to a limited number of runners, offering virtual option.

We Run the City is an annual 5K run/walk & 10K run is a rivalry race between USC and UCLA that supports Special Olympics Southern California. Alumni, faculty, fans, staff, and students of USC and UCLA will compete for bragging rights and the We Run the City trophy.
Each runner/walker must declare their allegiance at the time of registration and whether they are an alumni, faculty, fan, staff, or student. They are then a part of Team USC or Team UCLA. Competition is broken into the three categories as follows:
– points awarded to the school that has the most participants
– points awarded to the school that raises the money
– points awarded to the first school to have 100 runners cross the finish
The school that wins at least two out of three, claims victory and their school has bragging rights and the trophy for the year!
Funds raised by the We Run the City 5K run/walk & 10K run support Special Olympics athletes. Alumni, faculty, fans, staff, and students compete for bragging rights and the We Run the City trophy. Runners will receive a Team USC or UCLA event shirt and a finisher’s medal. Runners & walkers who fundraise will have the opportunity to earn more prizes.

It’s a fun race for a great cause and with a lot of school spirit (GO BRUINS!). I have only run on the “USC turf” and it was fun, though there’s a section where you’re just kind of running through the parking lot. There’s a ton of water stops, though, DJs along the course, and in general the production was fantastic. You get extra swag the more donations you get and it’s a great motivator to raise money for such a great cause. My favorite part was having Special Olympic athletes give me my medals – I felt very honored.
It was surprisingly hot, but you can never predict California weather.
Love the support throughout the year.

This is a terrific race. Whether you’re running as part of the UCLA vs USC rivalry or running for Special Olympics Southern California, or you’re just running because it’s local, this is a great race. The energy is terrific, there are inspirational speakers and there are participants of all ages. USC is a flatter course and UCLA is hillier. Both are fun, fast courses.
