The rugged, remote and very challenging Volcanic 50K+ course is run on single-track trails circumnavigating the entirety of the majestic Mt St Helens. All but 4.5 miles are run on the Loowit Trail. Racers travel over lava, boulders, and pumice fields, cross rivers, run through the blast zone as well as through dense forest. In all, the course involves ~7400 ft of elevation gain and loss. You can expect a finish time more like that of a 50-miler than a 50K so be prepared for a longer, but glorious day on the mountain
The 25K is a great way to race on the volcano and experience all that it has to offer, without having to run all the way around it. The course includes the Loowit trail, those boulder fields, a fun cushy downhill, a debris flow, and woodsy trails. The race involves 3,200 feet of gain and loss.
50K is Saturday
25K is Sunday
Capacity: 50K=285, 25K=325
Race Experience
For the 50K: Due to the remote, mountain environment and challenging aspect of this course, it is required to have completed at least one trail 50K prior to race day or to have run the Volcanic 25K in a prior year. This is important for your safety and happiness on race day, as well as that of the volunteers who’ll be out there assisting you.
The 25K does not have any pre-requisites.
You will need to provide a link to your 50K result during the registration process. That race does not have to occur in the same year; you just have to have completed a trail 50K at some point before this year’s Volcanic. If you choose to sign up before completing your prerequisite 50K, understand that the cancellation policy will apply if you need to cancel your registration.

Great race and organization
Recommended and likely to repeat some day. Rugged terrain but a great scenery in a famous volcano circumnavigation itinerary. Not much elevation gain but good enought for a 50K. MORE
