This race follows a 2.3 mile paved loop around a golf course. The scenery is beautiful and the weather tends to be very nice this time of year on Virginia Beach: upper 40s lower 50s.
The food/aid station is at the start/finish and is well-stocked. If you have a special request, they do their best to acquire it for you. A fellow runner was “pickled tink” when they chased down some pickle juice for her. The volunteers and support crew run the course backwards to cheer you on, among other antics like dressing up as a t-rex.
John, the race director, is extremely friendly.
The swag included a cotton t-shirt, a wooden medal and your choice of Drymax socks. The design on the shirt was nice, but since it is unisex and cotton it will become a nightshirt for me. The medal was awesome. I love wooden medals. And the socks were great. We had our choice of low cut or mid cut.
If I lived near this race, I would do it every year. It was definitely worth the drive to do it once. What really gets 5-stars is the friendliness of the folks.
Flat and fast
