This is a small local race that feels like a million dollar production. A big portion of the course was along the Leelaneau Trail and it’s wine country. That means nothing but gorgeous scenery and hills. Since it runs along the beaches, you get to see lots of views of sun over water. Truly breathtaking.

The race director makes you feel at home. He and his better half, Nance, are as friendly as they get. And they are perfectionists. Every detail is taken care of. This race get strong community support so there were tons of raffle prizes at the end for local shops and restaurants. We won a prize and immediately cashed it in for lunch on the way home. Very yummy – happy tummy!

The bling is outstanding. I don’t think you’ll find a better medal. It’s ceramic and is made by a local tile producer. It weighs a ton and will beat on your chest as you walk as though you might need CPR. Shirts are optional and I regret not signing up for OneNote when I registered. My size was sold out by the time I arrived.

Since this is in wine country, I recommend having a few wine tastings because some of the best wines come from this region. Remember, just a few tastings. Don’t fall into the delicious trap.

Importantly, this is a USATF certified course. If you’re an old fogey like me, you are vying for that Pheidippides Award.

The Hills! I am not used to gently rolling hills where I live, so these hills caused me great difficulty. The scenery was worth it though, as you crest a hill and see the water far below. The only part of the course that i didn’t really like was running on the shoulder of the road on the highway. It’s definitely a fast race, we were at the back and there were few people around. The support is amazing though, we had lots of water stops, there were people cheering us on at every stop. The view and the medal were worth it all. Even though the hills were like nothing i had ever run before, I would consider running it again.

The course is about 50% TART trail, 50% road. Road shoes are probably best. It takes you through the trees of Sutton’s Bay from winery to winery and along the lake. The scenery is outstanding to say the least. It has rolling hills and the best hill is between miles 9 & 10. Wait until you crest it. You will see the most splendid vision Mother Nature can offer. You will find lots of other surprises along the way. The winner of this race is the one who took the most pics and soaked up the atmosphere.

The bling. THE BLING! The shirt was pretty, but not a favorite. However, the medal. THE MEDAL!!!! This is one of the best ones you will ever get. Each one is handmade and signed at Sporck Tile. It’s gorgeous! It’s GIGANTIC! A real show stopper and conversation piece.

The weather was perfect and for this time of the year and this region, rather predictable.

This ranks as a favorite race. I loved it.
