Back in 2003, on the initiative of Venloop board member Erik Schnock, 62 people commenced training for the 2004 New York marathon. It primarily concerned novice runners who wished to run together to raise € 42,195 for two charities. One euro per metre. One year of hard training, having fun with each other and share the struggle when training for a marathon, the marathon, creates a bond. Therefore the experience in New York was simply unforgettable.
On the way back to the Netherlands the idea was born: create such a fantastic event in Venlo with a great atmosphere and sportsmanship for as many people as possible. A mini New York.
Shortly afterwards the Venlo-Loopstad.com Foundation was set up and preparations started. The objective of this foundation was and is to promote running to a wide public. By organising a well-organised running event with a great atmosphere with various distances where many people could participate.

Venloop was my 2nd race in the Netherlands and I really can recommend running a Dutch race. It´s always like a huge party. The starts in the afternoon and the whole city seems to be captured by the race. Start and finish is in the centre of historic Venlo which is really small, but beautiful. The atmosphere is fantastic, but even in the neighborhoods it is great as really everybody seems to be cheering for the runners.
