Absolutely great race! I loved the big city race feeling with the use of the Garmin Pacing Team. Mark did a fantastic job communicating pre- and post-race. The scenery was beautiful, and the Cowboy Trail was in pristine condition. We will return! Bolo Beer provided a great atmosphere, and the 7:00 AM beer and Sandhills Burgers ended the morning on a great note.

They did a fantastic job putting the event together in a serious way. Small town road races can often feel very under produced, but this felt like it had all the markings a race with thousands of people at the starting line. The course was everything you’d want from an out and back on the Cowboy Trail.

This was my favorite run I have ever done. The weather could not have been better. The sandhills were covered in beautiful sunflowers and we got to watch the sunrise come up over the Niobrara river throughout the race. It was perfect.

Looking for a marathon in NE. check out Valentine. Whether you are collecting states or looking to support a community-based race Valentine checks off all the boxes. My husband & I participated in the inaugural 2025 race. The course is flat & fast on the Cowboy Trail. Mark Gudget, the R.D. put his heart and soul into making sure everyone enjoyed the miles. It’s a family friendly race. Distances are from 5K to 50K. The volunteers were great, cheering on the runners. Hooray for the wonderful pacers. They were very engaging. Pacers give of themselves to make sure their runners cross the finish line with big smiles It’s a green race, Mark provided runners with a reusable/ survivor cup. It’s a feel- good event. The proceeds to go the high school scholarship fund. You will finish feeling good about making new friends in Valentine.

This was the 1st Annual Valentine Marathon. It was a small race but the voluntters qere great. The race startws and ended at the local brewery and it was a pretty flat marathon with water stops around every 2 miles. This was the first time that I did a cupless event and it was great, as the volunteers were very helpful. I was the six hour pacer (with a 6 hour cutoff time). Even though, I finish just outside of the time frame, the race director kept it open for the last runner and I.
