The ERS Savannah Love Chocolate Race Weekend – THE YEAR OF EXTRA LOVE
This year we need share a little extra Love. We believe more racing is more better! So we have created an opportunity for a Marathon Experience in Savannah. As it stands at the release of this event, it is Savannah’s only Marathon. There are 4 races to earn your CHOCOLATE – the upgraded finish line food will be available Friday or Saturday for a Valentine’s Race Experience.
The full and half marathon courses are flat, out and back courses. Fully paved with side walks throughout. The half and full runs through Southbridge. This neighborhood is beautiful with homes, lakes, and smooth curves that it make it engaging the whole way. The course is open and we are certifying it 90% on one side of the road making. There are low traffic levels and the Home Owners are gracious. The 5K &10K starts from Howe 2 run and is a fully paved path running around a residential area into a wood park path.

PROS
*Affordable pricing- I signed up only a few weeks prior, and it was $70. Smaller race (I think they capped it at 400 participants), which I love!
*Great organization. The race director sent a few emails leading up to race day with helpful info. Packet pick-up was at the local running store and was super easy.
*There was also a 5K and 10K race the evening before- I love when races offer these options!
*7 AM start time- not too early, not too late!
*The route went through a beautiful neighborhood. I like looking at different types of homes lol, so this was enjoyable to me. There were sidewalks and very little traffic.
*Porta-potties were along the route, and aid stations were well-manned, offering water and Gatorade. There were children helping out, and it was just the cutest to see them cheer everyone on and hand out drinks!
*I looked freaky in most of them, but they took great (and free!) race pics along the route.
*Post-race goodies included bananas, an assortment of snacks (bars, cookies, pretzels/chips, jerky), coffee, and hot chocolate.
*Free medal engraving post-race. I didn’t take advantage of this, but I thought it was such a neat offering!
CONS
*Unless you like a big race with a ton of crowd support, I can’t think of any cons. I guess one thing would be that the t-shirt was just ehh- white and kinda see-through.
If we’re still stationed in NC next year, I’ll happily drive back down for this event!

Yesterday 2/14 race in Savannah was such a great experience from start to finish. Easy and flat course. Nice soft T-shirts and cute looking medals. They added 5K and 10K night before for a double experience.
Communication leading up to the race was simple and clear. Packet pickup was quick and easy — no confusion, no chaos. You can tell this race is designed by runners, for runners.
Race morning couldn’t have been smoother. Parking was easy in the church lot, and the church was open so we had a warm indoor place to wait before the start. They even had more snacks and hot drinks to buy, which was a nice touch. Bathrooms were clean and plentiful!
The race director, Dan, was fantastic. He started the race with a genuine message and a prayer for safety, which made the morning feel special and that community race feel.
One of my favorite parts? Free medal engraving for everyone — yes, everyone! And they do age awards by single year instead of age groups 😆 which I absolutely love.
It’s a smaller race through neighborhood streets, which made it feel personal and like a long run.

The course runs mainly through a neighborhood. It’s flat and easy. The staff and volunteers are amazing, from sending communication before race day to packet pickup options several days before race day. When you finish, the medal, coffee mug, and CHOCOLATE TREATS are always a treat. You also get free race pics to download, and there are a ton of them!! The photographers always make you look like you’re having a good time (even if you’re not feeling it at mile 11).
