After extensive damage to the former venue, Harmon Field, Outreach has selected Tryon International for the annual Run for Outreach fundraising event, the Tryon Half Marathon and Fall for the Foothills 5K.
This exciting new off-road race offers an invigorating experience at one of the country’s premier equestrian venues. Spanning over 1,600 acres in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Tryon International is home to world-class arenas, stables, and riding trails, many of which serve as the backdrop for the course. This one of a kind trail run blends the energy of a working equestrian center with the stillness of nature in late fall and offers a truly immersive off-road experience.
All races should be enjoyed to their fullest! Dress up in costumes, run solo or in a group – family, friends, co-workers, and church members all welcome.
Expect crisp fall temperatures and a picturesque route that meanders along riverside paths through Tryon’s renowned horse country. With a mix of paved roads, packed dirt, and gravel trails, this 13.1-mile course offers a memorable experience for runners of all levels.

This race is a nice small hometown race in the foothills of North Carolina. There might have been 200 people running the half-maybe. The production was sufficient for the size of the event, I didn’t register in time to guarantee my tshirt size, but I was lucky enough to get one after the race. There were plenty of facilities available. They did have an awesome breakfast after the race. The course wound through beautiful scenic countryside. All the fall colors were out and it was gorgeous to take in. There are a lot of hills both steep and long as well as rolling. The worst was probably around mile 9-10. So, yah it kicked my butt. There were volunteers on the course where they were needed. There were a few times where I was unsure which way to go but found someone to show me at just the right time. There is good crowd support at the end, but otherwise it was just me and the road and the occasional runner, so it felt a lot more like a long run than a race, but it sure was beautiful. That is my kind of running right there.
