The scenery was absolutely beautiful! It was a great combination of road and trail with views of the lake and too many trees to count. I loved being able to experience such a unique race. The course was well marked out and and certain areas had police directing traffic which was helpful. A good majority of the race was running in the bike lane, but I did not mind because as long as you were careful and watched the road, you were fine.
Cons: While I loved the race experience, I was really frustrated to not receive a finisher medal. I typically sign up for races that give out medals because that is my “prize” or token of accomplishment. The website specifically said we would receive a medal for the half distance which is the one I completed. Instead, we got a glass that I’ve attached in my photos. I am not a drinker so this was a little disappointing to me. While I understand a brewery was the race sponsor, and a glass does fit the race, this was false advertising. Glasses are breakable and a little difficult to display as opposed to a medal that travels well and is less likely to crack.
I would consider this race again, but I would double check with Big Blue Adventure to make sure the website had an accurate description of the SWAG we would receive.
