Yes, there is another race production company that puts on races – lots of races – from the Toyota Music Factory year around. I ran one in May and was super disappointed. Poor production, ugly course, terrible aid stations. This race from Ampt Running was worlds different – SO MUCH BETTER!
Easy race day packet pickup. Free parking. Easy, well-organized gear check. The race started on time. The aid stations were plentiful and had cups of water, gatorade, or pickle juice (although honestly twice I called out for water and was handed pickle juice. Can’t they color it differently so the volunteers know?). Lots of encouraging volunteers. The course was great – maybe 1/3 on the street and 2/3 on concrete paved trails. The trails had very few if any non-race participants using them so there was no dodging necessary. Fast course. It’s not a run on the beach but the trails were tree lined which was more scenic than other Irving races. Cash prizes for the top 3 male and females. Good post run music. One beer and one fake beer (Athletic) included, among other snacks.
A little short on bathrooms. I ended up jumping out of line 5 minutes before the start and peeing behind a bush.
The race shirt is ok. I’ll probably wear it as a throw away for the Dallas marathon, depending on temps at the start. In general I wish we could move away from all these cheap polyester tech shirts. When do people wear them? Give me a nice cotton shirt I can wear with jeans in a color that doesn’t flash bright from a mile away. Just my two cents.
I’ve done Hot Trot twice and had good experiences both time there as well – I think it’s safe to say Ampt just has their stuff together. I’ll be looking for more of their races in the future.
Not going back. Ever!

I run multiple half marathons in Irving and Las Colinas. This race is the worst of them. Course is okay if you like broken concrete and a narrow running path that needs serious maintenance. Area hotels are not cheap. Some area hotels are more accommodating to other races such as Military Miles (formerly Wounded Warrior).

To the point first – Great event and great location. Awesome run production company. Ampt Running. I ran another of their events this summer and that one as well as this one was awesome.
Multiple distances offered at this event – 5k, 10k, and half marathon. I ran the half.
The venue for this event is among the best I have experienced. Toyota Music Factory. Parking was good, a parking garage right next to the pre/post race area and it was free Not sure if or when it filled up as I always arrive early.
Pre race pickup was organized but they did run out of large half marathon shirts so I went without one. They do tell you to do early pickup so while I want to say this was a negative I guess it was my own fault. If I had gotten on it was a quarter zip long sleeve for half runners. This venue had nice indoor restrooms as well as a few Porto Johns Several vendors were set up pre and post race handing out samples.
There was a band that played while I was out running or so I am told.
The course was good. Mostly flat but there were a few noticeable inclines, nothing serious but they were there despite them saying it was a flat course. Most of the course was on paved park trails. Water stops offered both water and sports drink and seemed to be well placed on the course. Run pacers were provided for the half distance. I ran with one for most of the distance until I died but for the ten miles I kept up, they were a little ahead of the advertised pace but were very friendly. My performance was horrible. Legs were shot before I started.
Finish line was good. Get your medal, bottle of water, and a small towel. Nice medal.
Post race was great. Same vendors onsite as pre race. If you wanted you could get a breakfast taco with your bib tag. Post race awards were nice. Trophies for three deep in all age groups. There were outdoor couches around a stage and the weather was great.
Overall a great event and I would for sure run this one as well as any of the Ampt Running events again in the future
