If you are looking for an event with beautiful scenery, come to the Top of Michigan next Memorial Day weekend! This is a fairly new race event which has a small-town feel but million-dollar views of the Little Traverse Bay (Lake Michigan) and surrounding area. Most of the course is run on the paved bike path which runs between the waters’ edge and the main road. This means very few intersections and easy access if you have spectators wanting to drive along and cheer. I was fortunate to have my fan club meet me at least a half-dozen times and cheer me on to a 13-min PR in the marathon and a podium finish! There’s also a 5K using the start line and a 5K using the finish line as well as a half marathon that starts in Bay Harbor. Shuttle buses were available and information was clearly communicated before race day and on race day as well. The food and chocolate milk available at the finish were very nice. I was very pleased with this event and highly recommend it.
