I have done this race for several years now. Usually I run the 10k but this year, due to the delay from the weather, I switched to the 5k. New courses were nice, I admit I was getting bored of the same old courses. As always, I enjoy these races and production is great!

White Rock Lake is a common venue for Dallas races. It is a fine venue with the only issue being an OPEN course…some cyclists, people walking their dogs, etc. can be found…but not often in the early, chilly morning!
The shirt was cheap. The award was a Bell Jar wrapped in a leather coozy w/ race logo. No Date. No 1st Place. Nothing. There was more beer than snacks. No. Not going back in spite of the fast time.

I say it was flat, but there is the one bear of a hill at the spillway by Garland Road—up on the way out, down on the way back—right after the crazy bridge that moves against you. That said, most Dallas runners are very familiar with both that bridge and that hill. I had no trouble with the logistics of this race although parking can be tricky so getting dropped off is ideal. Water stop volunteers were really nice and super encouraging. Course is basically out and back (pretty tight u-turn in the middle) and most of the race is on the lake, which is pretty, but if you’re looking for more city sights, this isn’t the race for that. That said, it’s relatively flat and the weather is more predictably cold in Dallas at this time. So if you are in a position to PR, then this is a good race for it.

This was a fast flat course. Three distances. I ran the 5K. Run Project puts on a great race. Parking is a big issue. Get there early for a good spot. Swag – race shirt, beanie hat, buff, race medal, and this year a finisher shirt because the beanie hats were too big. Placing awards were snow globes. Post race concert, standard bananas, bagels, oranges, granola bars, and water. muscle milk was on site too. Course runs by White Rock Lake. Nice run.
