The Barkcamp Race will feature a well-marked Ultra, Marathon and Half Marathon course throughout Barkcamp State Park’s trail system. The terrain promises lots of up and downs. The course will be marked with orange ribbons, arrows, and signs. These races are 99% on trails. Participants can take two laps for the Marathon distance and three laps for the Ultra. There is a Half Marathon walk available to the hikers among you who want to support our park. The race begins and ends at the beach.
There will be 3 aid stations spaced evenly throughout the course and at the Start/Finish line for those brave souls taking the second loop. Aid stations will have Hammer Nutrition products, water, pretzels, potato chips, cookies, PB&J sandwiches, pickles, candy, and soda. We ask that you bring a water bottle to lessen paper waste. All aid administered to runners by family, friends, and crew must take place within 100-feet of an aid station.
Restrooms are available at the Start/Finish line area and about the 11-mile mark. Volunteers will be at aid stations with communication if you require that kind of assistance beyond their ability to help. Drop bag location will be near the Start/Finish line.
The event also features a 5K, 10K and Half Marathon Road Race, a challenging course with lots of ups and downs through the beautiful park. Finishers will receive a medal, tie dyed tech T-shirt (if registered by 8/23), and lunch by Ye Olde Alpha. These 3 items have a value of over $55 if bought individually. Everyone that completes the course to the best of their ability is a winner — for themselves and by benefiting our local State Park! The 20K will simply be two laps of our challenging course.
The park has a campground area that is free to participants for Friday and Saturday night (contact us to reserve a spot — not ODNR), and there are many hotels in our area, Sleep Inn Belmont being the closest and offering a discount to you.

The race directors work so hard to keep the course cleared over the summer! Wide trail provides ease of movement for passing and going around others. We had perfect weather my year (2019). Really good for a first 40 miler; rocky and rooty, but not too technical, though no one in their right mind would ever call any 40 miler “easy”; about 12,000 ft of elevation change. The race directors stick around for a hug for every last runner (and for the ultra, that’s a long time!) Great little race with a lot of heart.
