… was what popped in my head when I was in Lucerne for the marathon.
I initally wanted to run the halfmarathon but it was sold out so I signed up for the full distance (about 130 USD). Free public transportation within Switzerland to and from the race was included. The main station in Lucerne was about 1.5 miles from the expo. One could walk, talk another train or a (free) boat over the Vierwaldstättersee. The ferries were running extra ships from the trainstation to the race expo (“Verkehrshaus”- the museum of transportation). At the Verkehrshaus one had to use escalators to go up to the highest floor which were kind of prolongations to the queue for the bib number pick up (relatively smooth and quick). changing facilities and showers were a couple of hundred meters away. Start was in corals (half marathon 1 loop, full marathon 2 loops- also a 10km option). The course led along the lake shore, sub-urban areas and the inner city of Lucerne. We also ran half a loop in the soccer stadium and ran on carpets through the KKL (the concert hall) and over inner city bridges. Plenty of water and isotonic drinks and the finishers gift was a race shirt in the Swiss colours (red and white). Some might struggle with the three (to me slight) elevation gains every round, but if you train hills you ll find the course easy and fast.

This race is well organized and made for a great experience. Transportation is fluid and easy, ferries to get to the start line were perfect. Packet pickup was flawless. The year I ran was very foggy so the mountains were hidden but the city is very pretty and clean. The last few miles felt like the best, being back onto the main stretches of city and running across the river. There is a brief stretch with cobblestones but it is a super spectator supported part of the race so it flew by.
