Join the Knoxville Track Club for a new event, the Sweetwater Valley Marathon! Get away from the crowds in the city and come run a full marathon, half marathon, or gather friends for a relay of either distance in the scenic rural community of Sweetwater, Tennessee. The marathon is a Boston Qualifier, certification number TN21016MS. The half marathon is also a certified course, TN21017MS.
You will have the option to participate in-person or virtually. All participants will receive a medal. Full marathon participants receive a jacket, half-marathon and relay participants receive a hoodie. Virtual runners will be able to submit their finish times online into the virtual race results.
The route will take runners through and around the charming town of Sweetwater. The marathon will be a double loop. Both the full and the half marathons will start and finish at the Historic Downtown Sweetwater Gazebo in the midst of the nostalgic downtown shopping district. Runners will take to the streets of Sweetwater, meandering past historic houses, Sweetwater High School, and along rural highways with gorgeous views of the valley landscape. This course is open to traffic and therefore headphones are strongly discouraged
PLEASE NOTE: The full marathon course DOES cross an active train track. This will be just past 13.1 miles and will effect full marathoner and marathon relay participants. We have no control over the railway’s schedule and can not guarantee that train will not come through. We will have a monitor at this spot who will not allow you to cross if a train is coming until the train has passed.
There will be start corrals based on your estimated start times.
The marathon course will close after 7 hours. No exceptions. Walkers should opt for the half marathon distance. No runners under the age of 15 allowed in the full or half marathons.

Inaugural race: not bad!
The town of Sweetwater is adorable and makes a nice starting location. The early morning electrical storms delayed the start, but overall this race was low-key, reasonably scenic, and fun. MORE

The Knoxville Track Club put on the race and I think it was the first time it had ever ran. The town is so cute! There was a really good Italian restaurant on the square. The race was fun but a double loop. Sorta hilly. Lots of food at the end and good swag including a very nice zip up jacket that was high quality.
