This is a small (35~people) mostly local race with most people coming over from St Thomas on the morning ferry. The race is 70% single track, 25% roads (paved and dirt) and 5% rocky beach run. The trails were in decent shape, but above average rocks and roots on most of it. There were 3 major hills as you chriscross the island. It was 80F+ and 80% humidity the entire time, but most of the race is shaded due to forest cover. You must carry your own water bottle and there are only 3 water stops. I needed more water then refilling my 22oz bottle those 3 times and began to over heat mid race. First race I have sat down durning and said WTF, about the top of the last hill mile 12. Race was 14 on my watch. Volunteers were great on the trail. They did have medical support at each road crossing 3-4x.
Small ok medal and a water bottle for swag. Awards for top male and female were nice custom made items.
You have to find your own way back to Cruz bay, I was able to get a ride from a local. There is not much communication. The bathrooms at the start were not unlocked until 3 minutes before the race and parking at the start is very limited.
Hills, heat, humidity, humbling
