The Smoky Bear Turkey Chase 5K will take place Thanksgiving morning at the Sevier County High School parking lot. The event will benefit the Sevier County High School Foundation and STEM Scholarship.

Race is hosted at the high school stadium beginning on the track with a loop out and around, behind the school and back. 647 runners from 34 states with 1st place happening at 16:34. The age groups were up to 10, 11-18, 19-49, and 50-99 with chip times. Can use actual stadium bathrooms and not porto potties. Best advice is if you are running, stay up at the very front at the start so you don’t get stuck bottlenecking up the hill and off school grounds behind families walking 5 across. They do not advise non runners to fall to the back of the line. Gentle down hill first half with uphill coming back. “Race medallion” is a wood carved ornament not a medal. Had 2 water stations, water, snacks and donuts at the end with tons of door prizes. Many dressed up in turkey hats/outfits and participants were given a purple beanie, which most wore because it was a 33 degree run. Family and stroller friendly. Lots to do in the area if visiting, including Tanger outlets and nearby Gatlinburg.
