The Southern New Mexico Trail Alliance brings you the annual running of the Sierra Vista Trail Runs. This event serves as the primary fundraiser for the Southern New Mexico Trail Alliance- 501 (c)(3).
This year’s event will include the 50K, half marathon, 10K, 5K and 1-mile kids fun run. We keep the registration cost low to make trail racing financially accessible for more people. As always, race registration requires the donation of an old pair of shoes. Bring the shoes to packet pick up or race day. Donated shoes will be offered to the Mesilla Valley Community of Hope.
Runners in all distances get a pair of race socks. Sizes cannot be guaranteed after the cutoff date. Extras will be ordered but sizes and quantities will be limited and available on a first come first serve basis. There will be awards for top three men and women in all distances. Post-race food will be provided.
All races will take place on Saturday. All distances will start at the Sierra Norte trailhead off of Dripping Springs Road.
All proceeds will be donated to the Southern New Mexico Trail Alliance to preserve and enhance the trails and outdoor recreation in the area. Funds support trail work days, trail building workshops, training, and tools.

First time running the Sierra Vista Trail race since we moved to the area. It’s definitely a technical course with lots of rocks. Plenty of opportunity for stumbles, tumbles and trips.
The first loop on the La Maria section of the course doesn’t look like much of an incline, but because we’ve run this area with our Running Club I know there is definitely a net gain on the outbound. Always “messes with my mind” because I don’t really see the gain, but can’t get my breath and gets discouraging. There’s net gain out there for sure + the higher elevation. It’s the course….it’s not you!
Scenic course. The ultra, halfs, 10k and 5k are well spaced apart so it doesn’t seem crowded. It’s single track but especially once everyone gets started it’s not an issue.
Typical food at the finish line.
Swag is a tshirt with a design from a local artist. Typical finisher shirt.
No medals. Didn’t get an opportunity to see finisher awards.
Our race started at 8 a.m. (half marathon). Arrived around 7:30 and there was still parking available in the lot, not on Dripping Springs Rd yet.
It’s beautiful out there among the Organ Mtns although you are mostly looking at the ground to keep from tripping or falling.
Great race!
