The Shiver by the River Winter race series is held each December, January, February, and March at Jim Dietrich Park, in Muhlenberg Twp, near the intersection of Stoudt’s Ferry Bridge Rd and Tuckerton Rd.
The Pagoda Pacer’s Athletic Club presents a low key, no frills winter race series that still draws approx. 400 runners per month because of its friendliness, great price, devotion to running in almost any type of weather and dedication to the premise that every post-race spread should include M&Ms.
Not to mention the other goodies like, indoor registration, mile markers, time splits at most miles, a wheel measured course, instant results and a wonderful post race buffet of such things as hot soup and bagels. Race series shirts for sale day of race (while they last). See what conditions “other nuts like you” will show up to race “in”.
Both 5k and 10k races start at same time and place; 10k runners do the loop twice. ROAD OPEN TO TRAFFIC DURING RACE; we control traffic as best we can but can’t “close” the road. Most of race faces traffic but pay attention while running.

This run is part of an annual winter monthly run series that is held from December through March. Despite the name of the race it is not actually run alongside the river. The only time you see the river is when you go to the clubhouse pre-race during check-in and then again post-race for refreshments.
The course itself is a 5k loop on paved roads. It begins with a long, short climb out of the park where the race starts/finishes, and then winds through a newer suburban housing development. There are a few other small hills along the way as well.
There is an instant results board on-site. There are no awards for the individual races, but there are series awards for those that have completed at least 3 of the 4 races.
Post race refreshments include candy, cookies, bagels, bananas and chicken noodle soup. The soup is awesome!
The location is easy to get to and there is plenty of parking.
This is a good series for those looking to get out each month and to see how you progress.
