The Sherman Steichen Memorial Race is put on every year in honor of Nick Steichen and Brett Sherman, former Creighton Physical Therapy and Pharmacy students who passed. Both Nick and Brett were known not only for their aptitude in their professional programs, but also for the way they loved life and shared that with everyone they came across. Just in their short time at Creighton, they left lasting impacts on their classmates and faculty inspiring us to carry on their legacies. This race will go on to fund three scholarships in their memory for one Physical Therapy student and two Pharmacy students that embody the kind hearted and generous characteristics that these two possessed. Every year, this is an event filled with lots of joy where we get to celebrate outside the classroom. We encourage everyone to bring their family, pets, and high energy. We are honored every year by the turn out from the Creighton and Omaha community.
The race will start at Tom Hanafan River’s Edge Park in Council Bluffs, Iowa and will go over the Bob Kearney Pedestrian Bridge, crossing into Omaha. Runners will then turn around to complete the 5K. 10K runners will have the opportunity to complete this lap twice. Near the starting line will be spaces for sponsors including Creighton Physical Therapy and Wellness, as well as tables with food including bagels, fruit, and muffins. There are lots of spaces for families and pets to play while their runner is away. We will have music and water stations along the way to encourage runners as well.
