Free parking
Easy bag check
Warm lobby before and after the race
Great swag (a nice hoodie and coffee mug this year)
Post race chili
Large enough for a good atmosphere, but not so large that it’s a crowded course
Out & back means you get to see the leaders and any friends on the course.
The bad things about this race:
Not very scenic
Two steep hills at the end make it hard to have a final kick
Overall, I enjoy this race quite a bit, particularly because it’s in January and winter running is awesome. I try to do this one every year.

You just never know what you are going to get in Minnesota in January. The Polar Dash early in January this year was almost too warm! This race so terribly cold and windy and it snowed! Although the course is an easy out and back on Shepard Rd in St Paul it was brutal! The wind, the snow, icy road made for a challenging run. But so glad I did it. Always feels great to conquer the elements. The expo and swag is great and you do get to wait indoors until the race starts. I still wish this race offered a medal seems deserving to earn a medal racing in January. But now I have done all distances of this race and have enjoyed them all .

Indoor start and finish, free parking, great swag, chili post-race, and that great Minnesota winter weather make this a great winter race. The course is boring and fairly flat, but there are very few turns which is nice.
