I was heading to a race in Quebec on Sunday and was looking for a race in either NH or VT on Saturday that was somewhat on the way and this race worked out nicely. It is about an hour from Concord, NH where my parents live and close to the VT border. I also loved that the race supported an animal shelter as I always like to help animals. There were a few helpful pre race emails. Parking for the race was easy and it was in a field area. There was a nice pre race set up with a few booths and some porta potties. My mom came on the trip with me and someone was very nice and gave her a chair to sit on while she watched us. I arrived at the race early and it was easy to get my bib but the line got long and I think there were short a volunteer so it was slow closer to race start. Packet included bib, raffle ticket and a pinkish T-shirt with the race logo and paw prints. It had a bit over 100 human participants and some cute four legged ones. My only real complaint is the race started like 20 minutes late due to the slow packet pick-up. The course had a different start and finish but was mostly an out and back. Even though it was an out and back it was really scenic and included running through a covered bridge. If you know anything about the area between NH and VT, you know the race will be hilly and there was a big hill. Though I did appreciate the out was the uphill and the back was the downhill so it was a fast final mile. Everything was well marked and there was an aid station with a bowl of water for the dogs at the turnaround. The weather was very nice and I was happy to have about the same finishing time as Thursday despite a much hillier course. It took a but to get the results but they were emailed to use in a reasonable time frame. No medal at the end which is usual. Lots of post race snacks. Some healthier like fruit and others less healthy like cupcakes, donuts and cookies. There were also hot dogs and burgers but nothing vegetarian (kind of weird for a humane society race but it was okay as I didn’t need a full meal right then). Overall this was a fun race for a great cause with a scenic but hilly course. Some productions hiccups resulting in a later start but nothing that ruined the experience. It is a bit far from where I live but close enough to may parents house that I would do it again if it worked out with the rest of my plans and especially if I decide to go back to Quebec again the weekend of the race.
