I helped out at packet pickup and cleaning up after the race.
Race production has room for improvement.
The signage could have been better because several runners had questions about where parking, bag drop, race start and finish were located. Multiple shirts were unavailable in the sizes that people ordered, including the “ugly sweater” sweatshirt which everyone was supposed to get and short sleeve shirts that people paid extra for – they ended up with a similar designed long sleeve option.
The race itself seemed to go well, the 5k was one loop around Margaritaville and the 10k runners did two loops, and I think there were plenty of snacks on the course.
Towards the end of the race, we ran out of 10k medals to hand out to the 10k finishers and gave out leftover half marathon medals from another Santa Hustle. It was disappointing not to have enough medals especially for folks who had just run their first 10k!!
The after party in the park was nice, with photo ops, a band, hot cocoa station and plenty of snacks (cookies, granola bars, electrolyte pouches, etc).
Racers seemed like they had fun and I’d consider volunteering again, hopefully things go smoother and they are more prepared with signs, shirts and medals next year.
