The annual San Diego International Triathlon is one of the longest-standing triathlons in the country and a Triathlete favorite. There are two distances to choose from an international course and a sprint course, whichever you choose you’re guaranteed a great race. Both races take place at the Spanish landing Park located on Harbor Drive across from the San Diego International Airport and finish at Ruocco Park Downtown San Diego.
The International course features a calm 1,000 meter swim at Spanish Landing Park on San Diego Bay. Water temperature will be approximately 64-68 degrees. Wetsuits are recommended. The bike portion is a “hilly” 30K ride to Cabrillo National Monument and back. Last is a flat 10K point-to-point run along Harbor Island and the Embarcadero.
The Sprint course features a calm 500 meter swim at Spanish Landing Park on San Diego Bay. The bike is a “hilly” 20K ride to Cabrillo National Monument and back. Last a flat 6K point-to-point run on the Embarcadero.
The race benefits Father Joe’s Villages, San Diego’s largest homeless services provider. Each day Father Joe’s Villages serves 3,000 meals provides housing, rental assistance, healthcare, food, clothing, education, job training, mental health, addiction treatment and child development services to our neighbors in need.

This is a San Diego Triathlon staple and great mid-season race. Not too big a field, in a really nice location. The course is fast. Nice beach entry into the bay. The bike course has a couple of inclines, which provides a nice challenge. The run is spectacular. I love the run thru shelter island and along side of tourists. The finish in seaport village is a nice touch to well produced event. Be warned!! this is a really competitive race. If you want to see how you stack up against some of San Diego’s finest triathletes, this is the race for you. Although there wasn’t a lot of free and “unnecessary” swag, KOZ puts your fees to good use by having luxury air-conditioned buses to transport athletes from the finish to T1, in addition to having a Saturday pre-race bike drop. These are conveniences that matter a lot to me.
