RYR Endurance Team is excited to once again host the RYR Endurance Race Weekend in Owensboro, KY. The weekend will offer a marathon on both Saturday and Sunday. Both marathons will be on the same USATF-certified course and are Boston Qualifiers.
The Saturday race is designed for those who want to complete the marathon but aren’t concerned with BQ qualifying times. This race will be open to more athletes and other races will run concurrently. The Sunday marathon is designed for those athletes desiring a personal best or trying to BQ. NO other races will be run during the competitive Sunday marathon. Registration for this race will be limited. For all races, there will be tables set up for athletes to stage their individual nutrition needs. RYR Endurance Team will also host a 5K, half marathon, and 50K on Saturday and a 10K on Sunday.
The courses for all races are on a scenic, asphalt greenway, offering shade and a couple of small lake views. Each race is a multi-loop course making it very spectator friendly and easy to navigate. The course is fast and flat! The start and finish are at Horse Fork Creek Park with a playground and soccer fields.

The none competitive marathon start was at 10am Saturday. The route is a good quality wide tarmac path through forest and past lakes. It’s 9 out and back loops with fuel, aid and bathroom stations at either end and the middle. The laps were long and pretty enough to prevent boredom.
The organisers really ‘make’ this event. It is for a local charity and they run it with a silk like, glee and joy. From the UK I felt like I had meet most of Owensboro by the time I started. This is a friendly and encouraging ‘race.’ It’s a run, a walk, a crawl. They want you to enter and to earn the bragging rights of an official medal holding marathon finisher. In 9 hours most people could easily walk (Also wheelchair friendly) to this achievement.
I cannot recommend this event or its atmosphere enough. It not thousands of runners cheered by crowds from start to finish. It’s a happy, low key, nod and say hello – again – as you count those loops down.
The medal and goody bag were excellent. Well done and thank you to the organisers, the excellent DJ who encourages you at the end / start of every lap and all the volunteers.
Kentucky checked off!

Nice correspondence with the race directors who are also runners. Smooth race. Small but nice size field of athletes (5k- 50k) marathon consisted of 9 loops. 3 miles each. Plenty of aid stations, good support for a small race. I loved the inspiration signs and Christian music and the announcements as we made each loop. Nice 1/4 zip top and local goodies in the swag bag. Hotels nearby and plenty of food options in Owensboro The course was scenic but the 70 degree day made it worth tough for ideal performance. I would recommend this race for anyone looking to check off Kentucky!
