The Running of the Bays Half Marathon is a certified half marathon course that starts in the quaint little town of Mound, Minnesota and meanders through some of the most beautiful bays that lake Minnetonka has to offer. The half marathon starts at 7:30 a.m. from the Mound Westonka Grandview Middle School.
The Half Marathon will leave town in a northerly direction and first experience the country side via county roads and the Luce Line trail. Runners will leave the Luce line trail and merge with the soothing waters along the bays of Lake Minnetonka. You will enjoy running the home stretch back into Mound on the shaded Dakota trail!
The 5K Family fun run is for all ages and paces. Strollers are welcome at the back of the 5K start. The 5K will start from the Mound Westonka Grandview Middle School at 7:35 a.m. The 5K participants will line up behind the half marathon runners and follow them out. The 5K is a continuation of the annual Our Lady of the Lake’s Incredible Festival 5K. Your victory will come with a grand finish at the Bethel Methodist Church in downtown Mound.

I put Bays in quotes with a question mark because it took maybe 7-8 miles before I actually saw water? For some reason when I looked at the course map I thought I would see Lake Minnetonka most of the time. But it was a scenic run all in all. It was tough, lots of hills, but for every up there was a down which was rewarding! The finishers medal is very cool, sparkly! The Tee shirt is cute too. There were only top overall finisher awards. I would do this again, if the date allows me. I would like to give it another chance knowing what to expect with hills and some trail, I’m not a fan of trail. Even though avid trail runners would probably say “what trail?” gravel, sticks, stones and uneven paths slow me down.
