This is a fun little run and I would do it again. It isn’t a destination race, but if you are local, or want to spend a weekend in Augusta, then it’s worth a go. It came with candy striped knee socks, which I proudly pulled on and put the Santa hat on as well as a red hoodie from another Christmas race. Nice SWAG.
The course is along a greenway, the first part of which is through a wealthy part of town, and it is really pretty. Then it is through what feels sort of park’ish, but you never feel too far from anything. It is an out and back, and you’ll pass a toilet twice (heated, in a ball field / playground area?), and there are aid stations that have water.
At the end of the race there was a decent few snacks of biscuits and gravy and… whiskey? Yes, whiskey. And granola bars and a few other things. Just steps from the start is a hotel where you can stay and just walk to the start, literally 30 seconds from the hotel front door.
I’m glad I did this one. And around mile 2 I ran past a former student as well, which was a nice surprise! Or rather she ran past me. She even ran back a mile when she finished to then turn around and re-run the final mile with me (that’s how slow I am these days!), which was nice.
