This is my second year participating as the race has been part of the Run Columbus series the past two years. Sandra, the race director, is very kind, and I appreciate how hard she works to balance the fundraising mission with the runner experience. I played myself this year, though: evidently I won my age group and a cake (because more birthdays! get it?). It was a gray and windy day, and I am not the fastest by any means, so I didn’t think I would have won anything. I left, sans cake, which is my fault. What impresses me as a repeat runner is how well the race production adapted in response to some challenging conditions. Part of the route was flooded this year, and so the route was adapted on race day, and the inflatable arch was taken down on race morning to ensure runner safety. I appreciated the communication and the fact that everything went smoothly.
