The River’s Edge Endurance Challenge is sponsored by the Brunswick High School Athletic Boosters a nonprofit 501(c)(3), and as such serves as a fundraiser for the Brunswick High School Track and Field program. All Monies raised by this event will be dedicated to the purchase of much needed equipment which is not otherwise funded by Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS).
A portion of the race course will utilize the newly developed River’s Edge Trail System, which has garnered quite a bit of attention for Brunswick and has already been the site of a large cycling event multiple times.
The race will offer 3 in person options. You can choose between a 5K loop as well as a 3 hour or 6 hour challenge (on a 5-mile loop). Given the variety of offerings and the timing of this race being a great trainer race for those runners in the famous JFK 50 Miler and other ultras, we expect to see a wide range of participants from local weekend warriors to elite endurance athletes traveling to Brunswick from out of town.

I really enjoyed this run–5 mile loop (with mile markers) and one mile of that was ‘easy’ on grass. The other four were hills with switchbacks through the MUD (because it was raining).
There was an unmanned aid station half way through (with tailwind, cups, water, and M&Ms), and there were a few spots on the loop where we could hear the music from the finish line/main aid station. The main aid station had bananas, water, tailwind, coke, donut holes, pb&j–all the favorites The race was easy to get to, and had ample parking.
Race swag bag was robust with freebies, plus a nice short sleeved tech shirt and medal with glitter. The race director was very caring and solicitous of feedback and aid. There was a photographer–perhaps there will be photos posted in a few days 🙂
