Whether you’re looking for a new destination race, a quick getaway from the city, a reason to return, or just a chance to explore the area, the Rhinebeck Hudson Valley Half Marathon & 5K promise to be great fun for everyone. Come for the day and race or stay the whole weekend. The race will feature rolling country roads on tree-lined streets, as well as views of the Hudson River, the Catskill Mountains.
There are many flat sections, and rolling hills are neither steep nor very long. It’s just not completely fat as a pancake! The start and finish line at the same location inside the Fairgrounds. The course features flat straightaways and rolling hills along picturesque village and country roads. Miles 1 to 4.5 are flat, runners begin gliding up and down on 3 percent grades from 4.5 to 6 miles. As you parallel the Hudson, visiting the pretty hamlet of Rhinecliff, you head north from 6 to 9.6 miles, turn around and then head south, passing expansive estates lined with stone walls on the gentlest of grades of -1% to 2%. You will turn left off River Road after 11 miles and head east toward the Village of Rhinebeck on gently rolling hills averaging less than 2%.
The Rhinebeck HV Half Marathon & 5K is raising awareness and funds for the Brain Aneurysm Foundation in loving memory of Elizabeth “Liz” Ann Irwin. Mom of the race director and her sisters, beloved Grammie, devoted wife, amazing sister/mother in-law/friend/teacher/church member and pillar of the Rhinebeck community. She will forever be loved and missed. Donations can be made during registration and, all profits from the race registration fees will go to the cause. Let’s make a difference!
Join us and race with purpose. All proceeds will go towards:
– Funding new research
– Providing support and educational materials to the medical community, the newly diagnosed, survivors, family members, friends and the general public regarding the facts, treatment options, and recovery process for brain aneurysms.
– Increasing awareness of brain aneurysms by promoting National Brain Aneurysm Awareness Month in September and by distributing aneurysm awareness materials to Emergency Departments in every hospital and to the community.

Beautiful, Hilly Race

Overall Rating: Pretty good small race.
Course Difficulty: Fairly constant rolling hills and rain for most of this race made this one a little tough. Several folks had a dream chafe going on, and the others were waiting for it. Without the rain it is probably a 3 out of 5.
Course Scenery: The Hudson valley is a pretty place. After I left, I felt like I had seen the other New York, outside of the big city. It was nice.
Race Production: From my perspective everything was flawless. You knew exactly what was going to happen and when, and then it did.
Race Swag: Good. Decent medal, and a dry blend t shirt.
My Performance: It was fine, once it started raining I went into survival mode so I could get the finish.
Met some new friends along the way who I’d be running with the rest of the week, and an RD who sweet talked me into running all 6 of the New England Challenge Races. Glad he did.
