A very well organized event, with lots of return runners. Just the right size for the course, which is mostly along a “river bed”; you run the asphalt side going out (slight decline) and the hard-packed dirt side returning (slight inclide). If it was a large turnout, it could be crowded in some areas, but 700+ runners/walker is just about right. If you know the area, you can probably find free and close parking; I parked at the high school and took the shuttle bus (about a mile away). They ran constantly so there was very little waiting. This race even has gear check; I only checked my car key but it was nice not having to worry about losing it. Swag is average: nice medal, a few food items and race PR in the bag. This year the shirt was an optional add-on which I skipped since I’ve run it before and have a couple of the shirts. There were small cash prizes to top finishers and AG winners got a nice Xmas coffee mug. I got 1st AG, but didn’t stick around for the awards. The weekend before Christmas was too hectic to sit for 45 minutes, but they were nice looking mugs. The cost is not bad, and if you don’t want the shirt, even more affordable. Very friendly crowd after…not a ton of booths, but sometimes that is a good thing. There are photogs out on the course, so be sure to smile! I recommend this fun run.

This was my first Renegade race, so I didn’t know what to expect. It was well-organized from start to finish. The race was at a park in Irvine, but the parking was offsite at a school and you got shuttled in, but the shuttles were frequent and easy to catch. The course was partially paved along a jogging/bike path and it could be a little challenging at times with some minor hills, but I still managed to finish with a decent time, in spite of an injury a couple of months earlier. The expo was great and the Santa was the best one that I’ve ever seen! He didn’t even need a fake beard! It was awesome to get photos with him! Nice cotton t-shirt & beautiful finisher’s medal. Saw several runners getting another VERY LARGE medal for completing the Renegade Holiday Series challenge, so I plan to do that next year!

This a Christmas themed 5k/10k in Irvine Benefiting CAF – Challenged Athletes Foundation.
This was my 4th go around doing the 5K which basically follows the Peter’s Canyon Regional Trail and Bikeway.
It is gaining in popularity and it is creating a problem – The trail is just too narrow to accommodate Runners, Novice Runners, Strollers, Walkers, Children and the usual Bike Traffic. This is not the run attempt your personal best.
The solution is to have 2 starting times an hour apart – one timed and one a “Fun Run”. I ran the Jingle Bell Run the week before and it turned out to be a good idea.
I like Christmas runs and I still like this one – even without BJ’s Pizza as a sponsor (Boo!). I’ll be back next year!
Not a huge fan
The course was packed!!! And took awhile to thin out. In terms of race production, I think they could do a much better job. Great vendors though :) MORE
