Who doesn’t love to cram into a vehicle at the wee early morning hours with run gear, snacks and your friends in anticipation of the van becoming more rancid as the day goes on? (BIG TIP! Ziploc bags for sweaty clothes). Adventures await you as you climb in the vehicle like clowns at the circus.
Teams of 2, 3, 4 or 6 runners will compete to win the coveted RR spikes for each award category. What’s better than that? In fact EVERYONE is a winner with the reward of a craft beer garden and grilled cheese made on site (gf and vegan options!) at the finish line. Look up to see the stunner of Mount Rainer. Go ahead and get a professional mug shot with Sasquatch and our bell stand with that gem in the background. Feel free to lay down and rehash stories of the epic relay adventure that started from the base of Mount Rainier to the cool, grassy waterfront of Tacoma you are now resting on. Put your feet up. You deserve it.
Relay teams start near the Carbon River entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park and finish at Marine Park on Tacoma’s Ruston Way. The course passes through deep forests, alongside rushing rivers and streams and through historic towns. It uses the paved Foothills Trail to the extent possible (44%) and roads (14%), sidewalks (7%) and rough trails (35%) when not.

I competed in a group of 4 and ran legs 2, 6, and 10. I had the best time going from start point to finish point with my friends. The atmosphere was incredible and the starting points were marked really clear. I really recommend getting your crew together and doing this relay because you will not regret it!

Overall downhill course. The top portion is great. Some road, some single track. The 4 miles of sand is not great. The noise pollution once runners reach the city is terrible! The aid stations were very poorly stocked. I took the 1st bus to the start where I picked up my number and shirt, but they were already out of the size I ordered (I registered several months in advance). The railroad spike for finishers is unique.
