Set up camp at the base of Sugar Bowl Ski Resort and experience the beauty and challenge of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Teams of 8 will test their limits on three amazing trails surrounded by breathtaking scenery. Relay style, you’ll divide and conquer, taking turns running three trails that vary in difficulty, until you’ve conquered each individually and collectively as a team!
Run along sweeping vistas and towering pines with steep hill climbs and epic lake views under the warm California sun. When you’re not running, you’ll be camping at Ragnar Village, where you’ll party and bond with your teammates. With fireside stories, s’mores, and food options from the Resort, this may be our best village yet!
The race starts Friday, but you won’t want to miss Thursday night when the Ragnar Village opens! You’ll get a bonus night of camping with friends, turning this into a memorable three-day event. Start working on your downhill running and your campfire ghost storytelling now because this is an event you don’t want to miss!

This is a super fun race. Teams of 8 (or 4 if you want to run double) run a total of 128 miles overnight. You get to run the cross country ski trails, so they are technical and challenging, but very beautiful. Each team sets up camp at Ragnar Village and many camps have themes. There’s always something going on – music, entertainment, food, and plenty of people watching 🙂
Our team has gone two years in a row and we’re already making plans for next year.
It’s not a cheap race – $1,500/team. I feel like it’s kind of expensive considering they don’t have aid stations on the course, and they use volunteers for a lot of the work. Swag consists of t-shirt, a really cool medal that functions as a camping tool (don’t try to carry it on an airplane), and a few granola bars and stickers, and a pasta dinner. They provide water (although they ran out both years – very dangerous!!!) and porta potties (fortunately they clean them like clockwork). Everything else is self-sufficient.
The energy is high, the people are super friendly, and the run is scenic. I highly recommend it!
