Okay, anyone who lives near the Bay needs to check out Brazen Racing. I have done a lot of races in my time, and Brazen puts on the best races out there. For starters, you can’t beat the price. They always have several distances to choose from (usually 5k, 10k and half marathon). Their shirts are cute (and you can choose between cotton or tech) and their medals are super creative – even the age group medals! They always have a lot of volunteers (because when you volunteer, you get a free race credit) so there is lots of support on the course. Plus, their aid stations are very well stocked (food, Gu, electrolytes, first aid) and their finish line food spread is amazing! Some races give you a banana and chips and you leave feeling light-headed. Not Brazen – they have several tables full of candy, fruit, bagels, chips, and even IT’S ITS!!! Do yourself a favor, sign up for a race today! http://www.BrazenRacing.com

This is a super fun race. Teams of 8 (or 4 if you want to run double) run a total of 128 miles overnight. You get to run the cross country ski trails, so they are technical and challenging, but very beautiful. Each team sets up camp at Ragnar Village and many camps have themes. There’s always something going on – music, entertainment, food, and plenty of people watching 🙂

Our team has gone two years in a row and we’re already making plans for next year.

It’s not a cheap race – $1,500/team. I feel like it’s kind of expensive considering they don’t have aid stations on the course, and they use volunteers for a lot of the work. Swag consists of t-shirt, a really cool medal that functions as a camping tool (don’t try to carry it on an airplane), and a few granola bars and stickers, and a pasta dinner. They provide water (although they ran out both years – very dangerous!!!) and porta potties (fortunately they clean them like clockwork). Everything else is self-sufficient.

The energy is high, the people are super friendly, and the run is scenic. I highly recommend it!

It was overall a good race. Well organized, easy to get to, perfect weather, FREE photos. And before the race it was really easy to meet up with friends. But once everyone arrived, it was a bit crowded.

THE GOOD:
– FREE photos!!!!!
– Parking! Plenty of it at 7:15am
– Super cute medal
– Pace groups!

THE BAD:
– Way too crowded, and walkers near the front. Need corrals to direct people to their ACTUAL pace.
– Food. A banana and chips? That was the lamest post-race food I’ve ever seen. After 13 miles, we need a little more than that, especially when we’re drinking wine and beer! Charge us an additional $5 and give us a bagel and a cookie.
– Not enough bathrooms – need some around mile 6
– Photographers on hills? Please, that’s adding insult to injury
– Packet pickup on Friday afternoon. If you’re going to do it on Friday, at least let us come in the morning before traffic is heavy.

THE UGLY:
– Not gender specific shirts!!! That was one of the selling points for me to register. I was so disappointed to get a men’s shirt that I will probably never wear.
