It figures during one of the worse droughts in Minnesota since 1988 it rains on race day. After being delayed an hour All distances were changed to a 5k because of possible storming. It never really did storm until much later in the day. All distances could have happened but I understand they needed to be safe. The communication that all distances were changed was right down to the wire of when the first race was supposed to start. Many distances were supposed to start much later so those that hadn’t arrived yet didn’t know that the distance and time changed to all start at the same time. So that was a little rough. I never saw that an email or post on FB was sent out about this change. They sent out a notification when everything was delayed an hour which was about 3 am. So yea, disappointing but still got to run and luckily the medals were general and not distance specific. I liked the nice bright shirt! And seriously was grateful for the rain.

I’ve reviewed many races and if you check my history, I’ve always been fair and positive in my reviews. However, I feel the obligation to leave an honest review for the Race Rave community.

The race organizers abruptly reduced the distance for all races to 5K at the start line. First of all, I understand that weather was uncontrollable. In my opinion, however, the decision to reduce the distance was VERY SOFT, last-minute and an overreaction.

There was a thunderstorm system that rolled through the area between 3-7 am. The race was delayed until 8:15 with no mention of reduced distances. There was a very light rain troughout the race with no lightning. The race was ran on paved streets which had no standing water or flooding issues. These conditions continued through 11 am.

The race organizers have a no refund- no deferral policy. The PA announcer was very tone-deaf to the circumstances. He commented to the gathered runners , “You should be happy you get to run a 5K and that you don’t have to run further today”. There were several individuals like myself, who traveled (many flew) in from out of state to participate in today’s race. All of those that I spoke to were pretty upset by the abrupt cancellation of the half marathon. Due to the handling of this event, I recommend avoiding this series in the future to anyone who is not a local participant.

There were some positives : Watching the in-line skater start was very cool. The race medal was decent as was the tech shirt. There were several nice hotel and food/drink options within walking distance of the start/ finish lines. If the event was held and produced properly, this could be an outstanding location for a race.

Small race; actually also had a roller blade half marathon. The expo had one vendor! Swag was underwhelming. Scenery was interesting and nice on the river. MORE
