Please join us Thanksgiving morning for the Plymouth Rock ‘n’ Run — a new 10 mile option has been added as part of the festivities and will have an expanded vendor area.
The 10K start line is on La Palma Ave at the west end of Yorba Regional Park (YRP) just west of the softball fields. Course travels east along YRP on La Palma, crosses Yorba Linda Blvd, and continues along La Palma to the turnaround at the approximate halfway point. Course then doubles back on La Palma, drops down onto the Santa Ana River Trail just before Yorba Linda Blvd., goes under the intersection, and continues west for the remaining approximate 1.5 miles distance to the finish line on the Santa Ana River Trail at the west end of YRP.
The annual Plymouth Rock ‘n’ Run Thanksgiving Day turkey trot, hosted by Research for Cure, is an all-volunteer staffed, run/walk event whose proceeds directly support Reeve-Irvine Research Center (RIRC) at UC Irvine. America’s largest and most progressive spinal-cord injury research facility, RIRC is dedicated to advancing cures for spinal cord injuries, neuromuscular disease, and neurological disorders towards improving the lives of those who have experienced the debilitating effects of such injuries and illnesses.
By exposing the value and urgency for such treatments, Plymouth Rock ‘n’ Run further strives to facilitate collaborative individual and business efforts, enhance the ideals of social responsibility, and promote social action to achieve improved health for a world-wide community.

The 10K starts early (as they should!) so it might be more festive once the 5K gets started. It seemed pretty empty in the morning until it got started. I got there early and found a parking spot pretty easily right inside the park; however, my family did the 5K, showed up later, and had to park in the neighborhood area and walk over.
The shirt is actually pretty nice – a tech T-shirt with the fun turkey logo on it. I’m not sure if it was just mine, but they do run small. The medal is super fun, though, and obviously I run for the bling. The 10K and 5K medals are the same, though.
The run itself was great, right alongside Yorba Regional Park and the Santa Ana River Trail. I enjoyed the scenery and there were just the right amount of drink stops. My main criticism was that the finish line is on the path and the sides were filled with volunteers or family members, so there was very little space for the runners to go – I ended up bumping into someone. I actually emailed this note to the production, though, and they said they were trying out a different set up and will take it into account for the next race!
