This is a smaller race that is a good value. Entry fees are not too high but you get a nice shirt and medal. They also have the first through third place attachment medals that hang below your finisher’s medal for each age group. The course is along an open running path but with the race being on Sunday it is not as busy. The course is fast and the race organization is fantastic. There is an easy packet pickup before the race starts. I’ve enjoyed all of my races with this producer. They have a nice start/finish area with a backdrop and phot opportunities.

This is the first time I have ran the half marathon under this name, although two show on my race history. It used to be called something else, then changed later to Wicked, but it is the same course. It is also the same course as the Hippity Hop half marathon I ran earlier this year. The races from Starting Line are similar, and Rio Vista park is a common site for their races. The production is always good and their medals are nice. I opted out of the t-shirt this time and saved $5 because I have too many t-shirts. The finish on the course was different this time, but overall it was the same route. In April I struggled with the already high Phoenix temperatures, but now at Halloween it was excellent. The course is flat and easy, following paved running trails around a park. I mark the scenery low because while it is a park it is mostly dry and dead now. At one point there was water in the river bed, but now its nothing to look at. The most challenging aspect of running at this park is the course is always open and there are dozens of bicycles to be aware of. I wouldn’t recommend listening to music through headphones because the bikes will sneak up on you. I was able to finish it this time in a better time than April.

The best thing about this race was my Wicked fast PR time for a half-marathon! The race was fairly large. Though runners were encouraged to dress up for the Halloween theme, not a whole lot of people followed suit. A few people were brave enough to run in costume. I didn’t cause I like to run light. The race took place at a very large park and runners shared the road with bicyclists, walkers, and joggers. The route is not very scenic. But there were plenty of snacks and a few vendors. And I’m glad we weren’t given a goodie bag. You just check-in, grab your shirt, pin your bib, and run. The medal is a cool bat. The race was very organized and it’s a good one to check off your race list.
