As I understand it, this was the inaugural race for Run Through USA (it’s affiliated with a British racing outfit). It took place at the steps of the Art Museum. Previously, this is the site of the Made in America music festival but that’s been discontinued. Scenery is amazing and beautiful run along the Schuylkill River. There was a DJ and pre race workout which I though was a nice touch.
However, there were a few glitches. First the event guide said there’d be a truck to drop off stuff before the race but it never showed up. Second, there was no water to hand out after the race – just Doritos and other junky post-race snacks. Third, the medal was seriously cheap quality. Fourth, pre-race communication could have been better, bib pickup and other essentials were sent last minute. All in all, I’ll let these issues slide given it’s the first one in the US for this organization. I hope this race becomes a fixture because a Labor Day run in Philly is an excellent idea, and the Art Museum /Kelly Drive is really fun to run.
