Worst race EVER! Left in dark w/ no lead
Packet p/u was fine & then went downhill. Posted start time was 9pm, didn't start til 9:15pm. Start/Finish line wasn't set up until~20min before race. Had a truck leading runners … MORE
Packet p/u was fine & then went downhill. Posted start time was 9pm, didn’t start til 9:15pm. Start/Finish line wasn’t set up until~20min before race. Had a truck leading runners out at the beginning on the roadway (100m) then left us to figure out course on our own in the dark, no lead bike/cart or anything marking where to go & the course was a series of turns, stretches through parking lots, etc. None of the us ran the complete 3.1m/5K course because we didn’t know where to go. Awards weren’t set up (could have been done during race) so had to wait even longer for that. None of the volunteers knew anything, only the race coordinator & she was hard to find. Have done over 40 races in the past year and this was the absolute WORST experience I’ve had. Horribly organized from beginning to end & leaving everyone (mostly teenagers in the lead) to figure out the course while running the course IN THE DARK was unimaginable. Strange because this is the Fire part of the Fire Ice series & the Ice (Frosty 5K) has a lead police motorcycle, tons of crossbucks marking the path & blocking traffic/spectators from interfering with the race, & is all set up 2+ hours before start time. Not sure if this was a 1 time thing for Party in the USA, but such a bad experience I’m not running it again to see.
