We planned a trip to Colorado and as always when traveling I look for a running event.
Four miles seemed good since this event is at 7297 feet and I live at like 700 feet. Short enough so altitude wouldn’t bite me too hard. I ran a half several years ago in this area and altitude was a factor. But this time I felt it a little but didn’t have a big effect on my results since it was only four miles.
This is a good small event that supports the local elementary school. 100% of all entry fees go to the school.
The course was flat (slight downhill if technically speaking but not noticed) and all on the Santa Fe trail. The surface is small crushed rock. It starts in Palmer Lake and finishes in Monument. Aid station is at mile 2 which provided water.
Finish line has water and bananas.
Swag was a nice t-shirt and a finisher “medal” (wooden).
After you finish, you are in Monument and they have a great 4th of July Festival. One of the largest parades in the area as well as street vendors and other activities.
The race provides return bus transport back to Lake Palmer as long as you finish by 9:00. After that you are on your own but it is only a four mile run/walk back if you stay in Monument for the Parade.
Good event to start the holiday
