The Orting Marathon on the Foothills trail starting in Orting, Washington, is a one-of-a-kind scenic running course passing through three communities (Orting, South Prairie and Buckley). It meanders through farmlands and many surrounding neighborhoods, and runs along or across several rivers and streams. The event includes a USA Track and Field (USATF) certified Full Marathon, a USATF certified Half Marathon, a USATF certified 5K Run, and a delightfully fun Kid Color Run. The Full Marathon course is relatively easy as marathons go, having a flat-to-gradual-uphill terrain to the midpoint, then a gradual downhill back to the Start/Finish line at the Orting Park. Great for runners of all experience levels, safe with very little vehicular traffic crossings, this is an event for the whole family.
No visit of Western Washington is complete without a visit to one of the state’s oldest cities, Orting. Nestled in the foothills of Mt Rainier between the Puyallup and Carbon Rivers, Orting is a quaint Turn-of-the-Century village that you will not forget. The town center is anchored by three parks filled with giant maples and evergreens. You will be awed by the view of Mt. Rainier from Washington Avenue.
The levees on the east and west sides of town are perfect for hikes along the rivers. The 25 mile Foothills Trail meanders right through the middle of town and then takes you along the Carbon River levee. Bike, walk, take the stroller and the family pet. Enjoy the turn-of-the-century architecture of downtown and eat at one of the many great restaurants. And many of our sponsors are located right in Orting, so please, visit their established businesses while you’re in town.
The Orting Marathon events will begin next to the Orting park, at the Eagles club building. They will continue south and eastward on the Orting trail, with the longest of the events going to Buckley via the new addition to the Orting trail.
