    1. Beautiful course. Uphill first half, downhill to flat second half. Mostly shaded.
    2. Huge finisher medal
    3. Nice finish line area with burgers and other food
    4. You get to wait in a school before the start to stay warm and have access to actual bathrooms (no portapotties!)

    Cons:
    1. Not as many water stops. For one part you grab a full bottle and have to run with it to the next stop to throw it out.
    2. No gatorade!!
    3. Didn’t love the shirt

I misread the start of the race and got on the bus with the 1/2 marathoners. Signed up to do the quarter. I got to the top and realized everyone I was riding the bus with was a 1/2 marathoner. So I did the 1/2 marathon unprepared. The Uberthons crew was great and I finished with a new friend. 🙂 beautiful course, would love to go back and bike it.

Because this was just up the road from my mom’s house, running this marathon was a no-brainer for me. I’ve always wanted to run a marathon on the Vernonia to Banks trail, and the move this year to the trail gave me the opportunity to do it. It starts out at the Vernonia High School, then loops around picturesque Vernonia Lake. It then goes onto the Banks to Vernonia trail for most of the rest of the route. The first third of the trail gradually slopes upward with an increasing gradient, then goes gradually downhill and flattens out about 5 miles from Banks. There is one downhill on the paved path that is steep enough to have switchbacks.
