At the Obuse Mini Marathon, you can not only compete for speed, but also stop occasionally to see Obuse and enjoy running. This race is awesome just for fun to see so many runners who dress up in costumes. The race is in a small town which you see numerous fruit orchards however the people dress up big time . The city goes out to put on a first class event. Aid stations throughout with numerous snacks in addition to sports drinks and water. The course does go through some narrow streets so it will be congested the first few miles and I’ve run the past 2 years with both races being very humid. The race starts at 6am and it will eventually get hot. The finish is at the Obuse Park with a water spots which you can enter to cool down and then there is all you can eat local produce (watermelon, oranges, cherries, cucumbers) which is so good. Highly recommend if you just want a fun race.

This race is all about having fun and not about setting a PR. This race is run in the small village of Obuse not far far from Nagano but this year was their 20th Anniversary. It was well organized, packet pick up was easy, even not speaking Japanese the assistance was great. The expo was very small but race morning the amount of people dressing in costumes was the most I’ve seen in the races I’ve run in Japan. The course takes you through the country side with small roads going through grape vineyards, apple orchards and many other fruit and vegetable fields. This race starts at 6 am but it was still Hot. There were so many stations on the course with water sports drinks, candies and I recall two different ones giving ice cream. At the finish there was a big water jets to cool off and then local fruit and vegetables all you could eat were provided. If I get the chance I will definitely run this one again.
