The Nutmeg State Marathon and Half will be held at Goodwin Park & Golf Course which is a large Golf Course/Driving Range park, on Maple Street, near the southern city limit of Hartford. We will park on the North end of the parking lot (Goodwin Golf Course & Driving Range. This course is about 80 miles from Warwick, R.I. There is a golf course in the interior of the park and golf cart paths do cross our running path which is asphalt except for about 1/2 mile of dirt. Please give golf carts the right-of-way.
There is one aid station at the start/finish. Race officials will keep track of the number of laps done. We will be set up about 5am for race day registrations and packet pick-up. All Runners will start at the same time and the same place with a different out and back turn around at the beginning.

I am thankful to JC the race director because the Nutmeg Marathon is a great marathon for you 50-staters who need CT. Nutmeg has a reasonable time limit, they’ll work with you! Whether you are older, have injuries that have slowed you down or just want to take your time, Nutmeg is for you. There are many +s’; it’s in a very convenient area, easy to get to from the airport and hotels are close-by, the early start (5AM) gives you 8 hours! 12 laps through a beautiful golf course with lots of shade, you pass by your car 12x (approximately every 2.13 miles so have your cooler full of ice and all of your supplies handy), it’s during a great time of year, mid to late May so even on a hot day the early start will really help! The metal and shirt were very nice! The only downside is a section along the road so be careful, certainly not a show stopper but just be aware of the traffic and you’ll be fine. It starts with a downhill, then a flat section and ends with an uphill, very doable! The Nutmeg Marathon was by far the best option for me for CT, it was my 42nd state and I totally recommend it! Thanks again JC and all of the volunteers!

I thought I would not like the 12 loop repetetiveness, but it was a pretty route and I enjoyed this a whole lot more than I thought I would. A minor hill right before the end of the lap got bigger every time. Well organized, especially with COVID-19 stuff going on. You get a little square on a table with your bib number to place food, drinks, etc., so you get 12 shots to resupply. The were a few people cheering by the the finish line, so after a few loops, you really look forward to their cheers. I’d run another one like these for sure.
A mildly challenging fun one

A medium looping course around a golf course, this one is mainly pavement with a little single track trail added in. One massive downhill at the start and another massive uphill towards the end of each loop. Easy to locate in the middle of Hartford. Highly recommend this one.

Overall Rating: Very good course, not such great performance.
Course Difficulty: This one was tough for me, after running the first couple of loops, my shins really started to hurt (shin splints), the downhills on this course were super painful. A somewhat steep rolling course.
Course Scenery: Nice. Well manicured golf course and lake.
Race Production: Good, JC and team did a great job.
Race Swag: Good. Nice state shaped medal, and a dry blend t shirt.
My Performance: Not too good, but all in all, happy to still be moving forward on day 7.
